Camping
Hakuna Matata Resort has campsites that cater for individual campers right up to groups of 35. If you have bigger groups, you can book a number of sites. The scenery is fantastic in each area but we pride ourselves on offering places that are secluded from others, so you get the feeling you have the place to yourself.
Simba:
This area is a 60 x 60 metre area mostly flat and grassed area that can cater for up to 35 persons camping in tents. It is located on the top of the ridge with a 360 degree view of the surrounding countryside through the trees, and one of the best sunset viewing places you will experience. And during a clear night … wow!! The stars are incredible.
Simba has 2 firepits for building a wood fire, a gas BBQ, a small wood fired pizza oven, toilet and picnic table and chairs. There is a 150 metre walk to the outdoor cold shower and fresh drinking water tap. Given the size of Simba, we sometimes have a number of different smaller groups camping there if all other spots are unavailable.
Zazu:
This area is a 50 x 60 metre slightly sloping grassed area that can cater for up to 35 persons camping in tents. Once again due to the openness of the area, the sky view is absolutely stunning, particularly on clear nights. Zazu is located about 100 metres from Simba so there is potential for larger groups to book both areas.
Zazu has a huge firepit and picnic table and chairs. There is an 80 metre walk to the outdoor cold shower and fresh drinking water tap. Given the size of Zazu, we sometimes have a number of different smaller groups camping there if all other spots are unavailable.
Pumbaa:
This area is located near the back of the property at the ‘log walk’ of the assault course. It is a flat grassed area that can cater for up to 35 persons in their own tents. Motorhomes and campervans also use this area to stay. Being at the back of the property it is very isolated from other campsites.
Pumbaa has a firepit, gas BBQ, picnic table and chairs, toilet and ‘solar bag’ shower. There is a 120 metre walk to the outdoor cold shower and fresh drinking water tap.
Rafiki:
This area is also located at the back end of the property and is 50 x 50 metres scattered with high shade trees. It can cater for 35 persons in their own tents. Given its location, it is ideal for the ‘entertainment’ of a larger party, so groups often set up a gazebo tent with speakers to play music in this area, while guests camp around the ‘party tent’ and other guests camp at Pumbaa, about 80 metres away.
Rafiki has a firepit, gas BBQ, picnic table and chairs, and toilet. There is a 140 metre walk to the outdoor cold shower and fresh drinking water tap.
Timon:
This area is located along the back track of the property so is away from all other campers. It is a smaller site to cater for couples of small groups of 4-6 persons, being able to erect 2-3 tents in the space. It is very slightly sloped.
Timon has a small firepit and table and chairs. Campers here can walk 100 metres to use the toilet at Pumbaa and it is a 300 metre walk to the outdoor cold shower and fresh drinking water tap.
Scar:
This area is a grassed area of 10 x 5 metres that is suitable for 1-2 tents only, or a campervan. The area is flat but prone to get a bit boggy underfoot in wet weather.
An area within Scar is also used to pile fallen debris and branches so there is often a big bonfire ready to go here. There is also a picnic table and chairs. Campers can use the toilet at Pumbaa which is a 70 metre walk and it is a 100 metre walk to the outdoor cold shower and fresh drinking water tap.
